Scenic Walks In Brean

Brean Down

The nearest scenic walk to our resort, Brean Down, is a wonderful place to explore. Named one of The Guardian’s top 10 UK walks in 2010, Brean Down is owned by the National Trust and offers stunning views, especially on a sunny day.

Here, you’ll discover incredible history, from the discovery of fossils to signs of early settlers. You can see the remains of a Roman temple and The Palmerston Fort, which was used to defend the country in the 1800s. Pack a picnic for a snack along the way, and keep an eye out for rare plants, birds, and goats.

Tyntesfield

Another National Trust owned area, Tyntesfield is known for its Victorian Gothic Revival house, but also has gardens and parkland that are perfect for exploration. The grounds were used as the setting for the most recent episode of BBC’s Sherlock.

Stroll through the many tended gardens of Tyntesfield, including the rose garden, the arboretum, and the orangery, or head to the estate’s woods and wonder through different species of trees.

Step into the house to make history come alive and learn about the prosperous Gibbs family.

Blagdon Lake

Situated near the Mendips, Blagdon Lake offers a wealth of great walks. Head to Blagdon Lake for a walk that takes you from Blagdon village along part of the manmade reservoir and back again. Look out for wildlife, including plenty of birds and trout introduced to the lake for fishers. After your walk, enjoy the quaint village’s small selection of local shops and pubs.

Brent Knoll

There are a few walks you can do around Brent Knoll, with one of the best being the climb to the top of the knoll. It takes around half an hour to climb, but you may want to plan plenty of extra time if you are going as part of a group.

The knoll used to be an island when the Somerset Levels were flooded and was comically known as the Isle of Frogs! This was because of an Arthurian legend that claimed three giants lived there.

Cheddar

Head to Cheddar, a village that lies at the opening of one of the best natural sites in the UK – Cheddar Gorge. Set off from here to walk along the designated paths for some breath-taking views of the gorge.

After your walk, make the most of the sweet village of Cheddar. With shops, restaurants, the famous Cheddar Cheese factory and caves, you’re spoilt for ways to spend the rest of your day out.
